On Valentine's Day and how it's for everyone

What is Valentine's Day but an ancient memory of St. Valentine, with nothing else known of him except that he was buried on the Via Flaminia on this day? Yes, legends would say that he would conduct marriages for young men, and had written the first "valentine's letter" (well, technically it was) addressed to the blind daughter of his jailer Asterius, signing as "from your Valentine". But then again, those were just legends.

What is Valentine's Day but another day to celebrate mediocrity of life? Much like monthsaries and weeksaries that celebrate the little time of a relationship (considering that most of them last far less than a year), it's mind-boggling on why it's such a big deal.

For many, it's just another Tuesday. Putting an "Independence Day" or "Forever Alone" hashtag in each and every tweet, trying not to sound bitter or worse: desperate, and constantly wondering why this holiday exists.

It exists because we ought to be reminded that we will always be in the arms of love. While there may be no historical fact to dig in to and believe, on this day and all other days we celebrate "life's mediocrities" are always special. Wait, scratch that. Life will never be mediocre. LIFE should always be celebrated. This day exists because people forget.

People forget that love isn't like the movies. It doesn't end after that glorious "yes" or "I do". It's not always going to be happy. We (yes, I'm including myself) watch too much of those romantic flicks that make us believe in the perfection of life, that everything will work out JUST because we're the hero/heroine. In the movies, dialogues were written with the right words, dreamt by writers who felt that this is what SHOULD have been and SHOULD BE. The perfect scenario was that after the girl rants and cries about something that makes totally no sense, the oh-so-gwapo dream guy runs after her. Well, we have no Oscar-winning script writer to dictate to us the right words to say. We have no Grammy-winning music director to craft that perfect background music to create the right atmosphere and moment. We're no Jason Mraz or Bruno Mars to know the right songs to sing. Our life is something we direct, and it only works out if we do it right.

People also forget that Valentine's isn't just for "couples". We will always be in a relationship with He who is GREATER than all of us. We will always have that responsibility to radiate our love to those in need, especially to those who don't have the time and ability (or wouldn't even have the account) to selfishly rant on Twitter, and to those who have nothing. We will never be SINGLE. We were not made to be lonely.

You may choose to still shun yourself from society and all that is happy today because you are reminded of all your "failed" relationships. Okay, you go do your thing. But it's best you know, there are no failed relationships. Every person who enters and exits your life does so in a mutual sharing of life's lessons. It shouldn't make us people with hearts of stone, it should make us stronger.

You may feel afraid that you might "suffer" when you engage in a relationship. "Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream," says Paulo Coelho.

Valentine's Day is made to remind everyone that there is always someone out there who deserves us and vice versa! You won't be ready for the right guy/girl, until you become the right person (who accepts and loves yourself, your faults and all).

17th Hot Air Balloon Festival - Part I

Last Sunday, I went to the 17th Hot Air Balloon Festival with my family, the Aguas family, and Daniel! We left Laguna as early as 3 AM for Clark, Pampanga but the crazy traffic made us miss the actual inflating and flight of most balloons. We literally had to walk to the venue, with some people renting bikes to get there faster. It wasn't my first time attending the festival so it wasn't so much of the experience that I missed, but the photo opportunities! Five or six years ago, I knew nothing about photography and didn't own a camera.

Still true to what it's known for, we got a glimpse of some of the craziest hot air balloons! Birthday cake, ice cream, flower, car, and... ham?! Yes. Ham. Roasted, I thought, since it was on fire anyways.

Gliders and such would fly overhead and break necks. One even had a "Will You Marry Me?" flag attached to it! Awwwww. Haha. The sounds of the festival were of honking cars, gliders' propellers, and chirping bird sounds that came from natives selling their handmade goods.

It was Daniel's first Hot Air Balloon Festival, and first time in Pampanga in general.

It's definitely more fun in the Philippines!

I wanted the paper hot air balloon lanterns, but we never got to go back for it. It would have been beautiful additions to my creative studio idea!

This ends the image-heavy part one of the Hot Air Balloon event. I practically cried in my head because we missed the grand finale (Night Glow) and the landing of the balloons. I would've had shots of GOLD! :( TRAFFIC is to blame. Things to always remember in attending festivities like these would be:

1.) Car is always a bad idea. You're ALWAYS going to be a victim of traffic. If you must take the car, park it somewhere, then walk or rent a bike to the place!

2.) Travel light. Pocket money, your ATM card, your ID, an extra shirt, and your camera bag.

3.) Baon, if you wish to save. But when buying, the best food is what has most value for your money! In other words, FILLING!

Everything looked divine. Although I didn't get to taste most of these, they sure look mouth-watering! My personal target was the Asparagus with Prosciutto& Hollandaise in Chinese Spoon! It blew my mind.

FUN FACT: Did you know the word "BIZU" came from the French word "bisous" (BIZU is how that French word is pronounced) which means "kiss"? Is that where we got "BESO" too? Haha! We used to kid around that BESO was how you pronounced the restaurant's name, as we would using our pseudo-probinsyana accent.

Bubbles Accessories - LOGO Entry

So, I made this "logo" for Bubbles. I wan't to persuade you into LIKING it so I'll explain my design.

Bubbles is well known for the unique tassle necklaces and earrings that they sell (and is personally, my favorite product of theirs). So in line with that, I made a logo that looks like a tassle necklace (hooray hoorray!) with the actual necklace in the shape of a bubble! Diba ang witty ko. (HAHAHAHA)

Studio Love

Yes, February!!

I can't believe we're already in the second month of 2012. My life is going on hyper speed with my new job at fashion magazine, MEGA. I started two weeks ago, and so far it's been great! (It's only the daily Sta.Rosa-Ortigas-Sta.Rosa commute that kills me) There's that reason for the lack of posts.

Daniel and I planned an "anniversary shoot" (yes, we're turning a year old!) and we were so glad when Neo agreed to take our photos in his new studio. The shoot was a blast! I can't wait to have my own studio and my own design office!

It was AWESOME." Ay mali.

Event: PharmaCanada - Cytology Lab Blessing

Yesterday, we met the President of Phil. Medical Association Dr. Oscar Tinio, Chairman and CEO of PharmaCanada Bob Rai, and his Vice President/Wife/Pathologist Dr. Harpeet Rai, and many more important doctors and people from all over the world!

Celebrating World Cancer Day, they brought in the first non-invasive (bloodless) Cancer detector in Asia! This event was also graced by ALL major networks in the country. KAPUSO, KAPATID, KAPAMILYA, and KABIT/KARIBAL (We can't decide on our network name! Haha!)

Held at St. Dominic's Medical Center Bacoor, we were the official Photographers for the event. Great job on your first gig, Daniel Anore!

The food shots were so good that I'm going to have to make a separate post dedicated solely to that!

Such a great event. The baon of learning that I get to take home was more than enough for the day. They also sure made beautiful use of such a small venue. Props to Ms. Zoe for that!

We also tested our new YN467 Speedlite during this event. Double thumbs up for this baby! The lighting it emits is beautiful. The photos were all perfect. For once, I didn't feel the need to edit them!

What is SOPA and how will that affect us?

Hundreds of websites such as Wikipedia, Mozilla, Craigslist, Google and Wired have stood up to fight against "SOPA" and have blacked out their websites, content and/or logo. Thousands were caught off-guard and left wondering what this "SOPA" is about, and how that's going to affect them.

SOPA

S.O.P.A. or (Stop Online Piracy Act) is a bill in the United States of America proposed in 2011 to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods. This bill includes the barring of advertising networks and payment facilities from doing business with allegedly infringing websites. It bars search engines from linking to the sites and requires ISP (internet service providers) to block access to the sites. Online streaming of such content would be criminalized with a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce stated in a letter to the editor of The New York Times: "Rogue Web sites that steal America's innovative and creative products attract more than 53 billion visits a year and threaten more than 19 million American jobs." The MPAA has a section of its Web site devoted to rogue web sites. Jim Hood, the Democratic attorney general of Mississippi, and co-chair of a National Association of Attorneys General committee on the topic, recently likened rogue web sites to child porn.

Lobbyists (people who attempt to influence legislators' decisions) for companies that rely on intellectual property copyright for revenue such as music record labels believe that this bill will protect the market and the industries, jobs, and people. The US President and legislators say that this "may kill innovation". Opponents believe and state that requiring search engines to delete domain names will begin chaos and a worldwide arms race of unprecedented censorship of the web and violates the FIRST AMENDMENT.

Freedom of Speech implications of SOPA

SOPA's opponents believe there are. New York Times called this bill as the "Great FIREWALL of America". Section 103 of the bill says that for a website to be blacklisted, the site must be directed (?) at the US and that the owner "has promoted" acts that can infringe copyright.

A "US-directed website" was defined on SECTION 101:

(A) the Internet site is used to provide goods or services to users located in the United States;
(B) there is evidence that the Internet site or portion thereof is intended to offer or provide such goods and services (or) access to such goods and services (or) delivery of such goods and services to users located in the United States;
(C) the Internet site or portion thereof does not contain reasonable measures to prevent such goods and services from being obtained in or delivered to the United States; and
(D) any prices for goods and services are indicated or billed in the currency of the United States.

The bill would be unconstitutional because, if enacted, (according to Harvard professor Laurence Tribe), "an entire website containing THOUSANDS of pages could be targeted if only a single page were accused of infringement."

eWeek states that "The language of SOPA is so broad, the rules so unconnected to the reality of Internet technology and the penalties so disconnected from the alleged crimes that this bill could effectively kill e-commerce or even normal Internet use. The bill also has grave implications for existing U.S., foreign and international laws and is sure to spend decades in court challenges."

Blacklisted and will potentially DELETE your entire digital life

SOPA would grant creators (the rich) extraordinary power over the web. Corporations and organizations, or the government would be allowed to order an ISP to block an entire website simply due to ALLEGATION that the site posted infringes content.

While Facebook and Twitter have the financial capabilities to stave off shut down notces, the smaller sites where you use to store photos, videos, and thoughts may not. SOPA includes an "anti-circumvention" clause which holds that telling people how to bypass SOPA is nearly as bad as violating its main provisions. If your tweets update links to The Pirate Bay etc, Twitter would be legally obligated to delete it. Same goes for YouTube, Tumblr, Wordpress, and Google. If they let this pass, they could and would be facing shut down. SOPA will censor every online social outlet and prevent new ones from emerging.

PRO-SOPA

Organizations most vocal on lobbying SOPA are the MPAA, the Recording Industry Association of America, and the US Chamber of Commerce. Other supporters include the National Fraternal Order of Police and the International Association of Firefighters.

The White House has come out strongly against it (read article here). Companies however PRO-SOPA have spent a huge amount of money pushing this bill and it remains a big issue in the House of Representatives. Here's a list of legislators for and against this bill.

SOPA misunderstands the nature of the internet and portends huge financial and cultural losses. The internet was built on the same principles of freedom that the country was. It should be afforded to the same rights.

Make Up Brushes and Use

Knowing the "what and how to" of make-up brushes are key to getting the most out of the tools we purchase. I admit, sometimes I purchase blindly, not knowing it's actual use and purpose, only thinking it might be something important.

Daniel got me an awesome 12-piece brush set in a pink pouch for my birthday. I was ecstatic! I was also brave enough to admit to him that I barely knew some of the brushes in the set.

"Would buying this for you encourage you to wear make-up more often? I hope not," he says. I reply: "I wouldn't want to do a full operation on my face all the time. I'm too lazy to do that on a daily basis or even on most days."

But my obsession for photoshoots (on others) and making other people look pretty (or prettier) will never wither, thus encouraging me to do some research on the brush basics!

Powder brush - You'll know a good powder brush with it's soft, full fluffy head. The brush provides and all-over dusting of loose or pressed powder. Dense brushes are not only irritating on the skin, but also less effective in evening out powder. A powder brush can also double as a blush brush if need be, because the soft, round head is great for sweeping on powder color, too

Angled Blush brush - An angled edge brush is meant more for contouring your brush. It's sculpted for cheeks. The soft bristles fit perfectly in cheek contours for defined cheekbones.

CONTOUR GUIDE for Nose, Eyes, and Cheeks

Foundation brush - These brushes are designed to give you a flawless finish without looking caked. The bristles are tightly packed with a tapered tip for fluid foundations. You can partner this brush with a good wedge sponge for blending.

Eyeliner brush - Eye liner brushes are necessary when you are using powder or cream liners. They tend to be square and made of firm, white, synthetic bristles because they are supposed to maintain shape better and provide control to create fine lines. These brushes can also be doubled as eye brow brushes.

Eyeliner brush - Another type of eyeliner brush. For extra thinner lines.

Eyeshadow brushes - Eyeshadow brushes are for applying primers and base color to your eye area.

The shorter soft-bristled brush can also act as a concealer brush. You can use it to apply concealer under the eyes, to spots and to camouflage problem areas.

Blending brush - For shading or (as the name implies) blending of colour or creamy products. This brush has fine, densely packed fibers that are arranged in an oval shape.

Eyebrow brush - Applies colour to the brow. Use to define or add "fill". Start in the middle of the brow and work your way to the outside. Target those areas of the brow where hair is thin or light, and fill them in using short strokes.

Brow brush & Lash comb - Double-ended with a firm, angled brush head on one end and a blending brush and styling comb on the other. Designed for filling-in, shading, blending and styling the brows. Use the comb to separate lashes for a full, fluffy set of lashes.

Spiral Eyebrow / Lash brush - Ideal for taming unruly hairs, the stiff bristles smooth and comb eyebrows into form. When shaping, use to brush hairs upwards and trim the excess for neatly groomed brows.

Lip brush - A flat, moderately-firm, tapered tip applies emollients and water-based products with ease, precision placement and a crisp, clean edge.

Yes, another make up / portraits post!

I'll talk about my tools soon. Daniel gave me a set of make up brushes which got me inspired! Still tossing and turning on whether I should take my make-up hobby seriously. Thing is, my stuff aren't branded (not that it matters to me, but those people who get into that business are required to have QUALITY tools). I can work with the cheap, local stuff. Some people think, that to achieve a great output, local and cheap make up will never do the trick.

There would be times that I would wish the quality would've been better. Cheap make-up may also be a bit irritating on the skin (for sensitive girls and boys) and hard to work with. I really dislike it being so glittery and shiny, too. The expensive, branded make-up are known for its matte finishes and easy use. But it just doesn't make any sense for me to buy such expensive make-up if it wouldn't really be my line of work. I'm really proud to be able to work with what I have.

Patty & Patrick

New year was not as much of a blast for me as it was for The Pats: Patty Laurel and Pat Filart! When I heard the news that Pat proposed to Patty just as the year shifted to 2012, I couldn't help but feel so giddy.

I've only been friends with them for a year and feel extra special-ER to be part of the whole ride (sort of). I was around during those days from when Pat was still single to when they got together. Now they're engaged and couldn't be happier! Kileeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeg.

The other day, a certain scandalous video has surfaced. A Brown Out Proposal. Okay, so... it's not scandalous. It's actually quite solemn and intimate, just as a proposal should be. Candle-lit and beautiful, the moment was accompanied by blasts of fireworks in the background. THE WORKS, Pat. High fives! Patty then wrote about it on her blog. Her note of details and the excerpt from her soon-to-be Mother-in-Law's email have raised the bar in proposals. Here's that video:

I'll just share that excerpt (I hope Patty and her stbmil won't mind):

"I have often wondered what my "last" daughter in law would be like as God had already blessed me with two wonderful ones. And now, He has added you to our family. We are blessed and very happy. You just seem to fit right in and I know that everyone is so happy for Patrick. He has so patiently waited and believed for God's best for him and I'm sure he feels you are worth the wait and we all agree. The whole thing has got me thinking about my own (and I was trying not to). One thing I know for sure, I would hate a proposal that included a series of mob dance numbers and an airing on local or national television. In any kind of surprise or gift, I would always like it well-thought of and DIY.

What am I sayiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing?! I'm not even twenty yet!

I just wanted to share this in hopes that ~~my future fiance will chance upon it~~ it may be of great inspiration for others to begin 2012 with a big move or a life-changer. To dedicate the rest of your life in being the best person for this one special man/woman gives "being alive" so much meaning. And it's not to pressure anyone (those in their marrying ages) to grab somebody sexy and tell 'em "HEY! I WANNA GET MARRIED TONIGHT!", because God really takes his time creating the beautiful things, and for sure... your moment, near or far from today, is something worth waiting for.

The Eyelash Diva

I've been reprimanded once or twice during modeling gigs because I don't get to bring falsies (false eyelashes) during the shoots. I was always a little skeptic when it came to beauty products that enhance or change your features apart from the usual make-up (falsies, colored lenses and such). My eyelashes are God-given and long enough, I don't NEED to add more!

In beauty shots, especially that of high fashion, it is, if not the most important, one of the key ingredients in that perfect smize. It adds so much drama and intensity!

During Bloggers United 2, I got the chance to grab a Eyelash Diva kit freebie from Style Alliance! It had two sets of falsies that look and feel like real lashes. It's so natural that when you put it on, you can't even feel it, but your eyes would intensify like woah!

Together with the two sets is a Strong and Easy glue with a tool to help you get it in place. You have to be careful with both of them! I've had the tool poke my eye a couple million times before I got it right.

I blame my fidgety hand.

I chose to use the SELENA pair for a special day out (and shoot).

What's amazing about this product is that it's so light-weight (both eyelash and glue), that the feeling is "barely there". I've had also a couple of mini-heart attacks when I remember that I have these falsies on, but I don't feel them! The material is not like those cheap ones you get at around P60 with plastic material. It's like the real thing.

I got the chance to meet the brains behind this whole thing, Jewil Viv, last week. She was such a darling, a true entrepreneur and I was pretty surprised how she could juggle all her activities. She told me a lot about Eyelash Diva, it's past and plans. I scraped off the "high-fashion/for shoots only" stereotype I had with eyelashes when she told me about the more natural black eyelashes that were available. Pwedeng pwede on a regular day out.

It's time you girls stopped dodging or refusing to try falsies. It's pretty cool!

Easy Stripe New Year Nails

New year means trying new things, and for the longest time I've been wanting to try the easy diagonal design nail art that I see on nail art blogs. Heed this as warning when I say that this would be my FIRST time to talk about nails and such so forgive me if ever you come across some nonsense!

With tape and two colors of nail polish, this loud design screams avante garde! Bobbie's Foil It nail polish is forever my favorite party choice! It's the cheapest (P35) alternative to those high-fashion chrome nails!

This design is way easy. First layer (2 coats) in one color, usually the lighter color of the two... depending on what kind of effect you're aiming for. Second layer, place a tape across the nail diagonallly and paint over it!

From what I learned, it's best that the tape isn't so sticky. FINALLY, cheap tape has a purpose! You have to also remember to remove the tape BEFORE the second color dries.

Bobbie's Foil It Coil and The Face Shop Violet nail polish

I didn't have any at the moment, but do know that it's best to top of the final design with a finish layer. I've never tried going matte before (and might, in the future) but from what I've heard, it's pretty neat. You can go get matte and glossy finishes at any Etude branch!

Wait, Christmas is done?!

Wow, that was fast. With 2012 fast approaching, I bring you:

"WHAT HAPPENED FOUR DAYS AGO!"

We celebrated the holidays at home in Laguna. For the past few weeks, the Don Bosco church (incredibly near our place) was lit up and gave everyone the atmosphere of Christmas. What I loved most was when the church would play instrumental Christmas carols before and after Simbang Gabi.

Absolutely heart-warming!

My awesome family. :) We had Secret Santa for gift giving time. You should know that SOME people had a hard time keeping secrets. Hahaha. We also posted a wish list of what we wanted to receive. I didn't know what else I could possibly wish for. No one could afford a Macbook Pro, so... I was good with anything I got.

Juancho was completely ecstatic to receive Mom's AQUAZORB gift. Then he received the same thing the next day. Haha! Anton was Mom's secret Santa. He bought her make-up and brushes from Watsons! :)

I actually dreaded and prayed that he wouldn't pick me prior this because he sort of had a history of being barat and cheap with his gifts. But that day proved otherwise! Tingnan mo naman ang wrapping. Effort kung effort. It was glue-gunned pa! Thanks. Haha.

Juancho got new clothes for VTRs and I gave my siblings Swatch watches (or was that redundant?). Mabby called us the SWIBLINGS.

Of all the things that has happened that day, I think what I probably hated the most was not being able to go to mass AT LEAST ONCE. I was grateful for so much things and didn't get to give God the time of day. The lights and music was a clearly an invitation for me and I would always seem to just leave it for another day, until it completely passed.

Aha. A new year's resolution has been born!

10 Things to Start Doing to Yourself

1.) Start being grateful
Being grateful does not mean appreciating the material gifts you've received. It's something deeper. Be grateful for the people around you, the people that make you the great person you are, and the events that have occurred that have helped you grow and learn. No, you don't have to list down the number of people you're grateful for, because it's physically impossible to do so. Don't EVER think that no one's got your back. Don't think that you've crossed the finish line of 2011 all by yourself. Be grateful for all the times you've ran and tripped, experienced roadblocks and crossroads.

Be grateful for the small things. Be grateful for the house you live in, the gadget, the hands, and eyes you use to read this (and to do more important things), and the endless love you're getting and giving. Be grateful that you got to wake up this morning (each morning we awaken to is a miracle to be grateful for)!

2.) Start facing your problems
Dolly Parton once said: "The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain."

Fix your problems, don't run away. Of course, getting through your problems will take a great deal of courage. But you must remember that courage is not the absence of fear, but knowing and understanding that something else is more important than fear. It's a new year with a new set of problems, don't put the old ones off for you to worry about next year. Keep things uncomplicated. For yourself, especially.

3.) Start respecting yourself
RESPECT YOURSELF. There's a very thin line between being generous and being a push-over/doormat/too gullible. Too thin that you might not be able to tell the difference. Once or twice, you may feel like you're being taken advantage of. That's okay. But not the third time.

To ultimately find out who you are or figure yourself out, you must also stop trying to follow what people "think" is cool or uncool. I support you in being different and being yourself! Knowing who you are and respecting that DEFINES your character and will for sure make you feel better physically, emotionally, and spiritually. And it will reflect in the way you carry yourself and the way you approach people.

Don't do something you know you're unsure of (especially when you know you'll regret it). Keep things classy.

4.) Start relationships for the right reasons
Don't get into any relationship with your personal gain in mind. A strong relationship has the foundation of steel robot unicorns and mutual love! From personal experience, I have been through the whole "I'll-get-in-this-cause-I'm-being-pressured" and hurt in the end. I've read the last few pages, and it never ended well.

5.) Start investing
Learn about the magical world of investment! Don't deprive yourself of the possibilities of a better future. Money, relationships, skills, and more, it's always better to think long-term. Invest and harvest the fruits of your labor in the future. It will assure you of quality of life and improve your spending habits. When you invest early, time is on your side. Speaking in a business-manner, having time on your side means having a longer time period of being able to save money to invest and a longer time period of being able to find investments that can increase in value quiten nicely. You can relate this to other things, too.

Invest in experience. Every time you can, go to a place you've never gone before.

6.) Start forgiving and letting go
"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute to the strong," says the great Mahatma Ghandi.

Those who choose not to forgive or continuously dig up the past (and refuse to let go) are scared. Scared of what might happen and are not afraid to take the next step. With that said, those people keep their lives on suspension and never move forward.

Keep an open heart and mind. Forgiveness is such a brave thing to do, but there's no risk to it really. You're doing it also for yourself.

7.) Start being happy for others
I've mentioned you "respecting yourself". Now you must also remember to respect others! Golden rule: Don't do unto others what you don't want them to do to you.

When they achieve and do great, be happy for them! Appreciate what they have achieved and they will do the same. If they don't, well... you don't really have to ask for anything back (but you can send them the link to this post, too. Haha!) I think it's pretty obvious that being HAPPY is a gazillion times less stressful than being envious or hating on people's success and happiness.

8.) Start being the person you want to be
If the person you want to be is someone followed, then lead! When are you too old to say "When I grow up, I want to be..."? I admire those who, at a young age, have already figured out and know who they want to be. It takes time to know yourself and to even change (for the better) if you have to, and sometimes it takes longer than expected. But it's part of the process, resorting to a quicker route a.k.a. being someone else will NOT make things any easier for you (especially in the long run).

Everyone's different and you're not going to experience the EXACT same things that the other person's going to go through (vice versa). You can't always think that someone else's sure fire recipe to success will work out the same for you as well. Get a goal and score. To each his or her own method, it may take a few changes, but make sure it will make YOU happy.

9.) Start loving
Zero the hate. Learn to appreciate! It's good for your health.

10.) Start living a meaningful life
You must learn to STAND UP for something. To succeed, you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something (and someone) to inspire you. Whether it be for children, for the self-proclaimed hopeless, for love, etc.

No matter what theory you believe in (the Bible's Genesis, the Big Bang Theory, the Incredible Bulk, etc.), we were all brought here for a reason. And each of us has a purpose. The reason why these problems and issues surface are for us to take action on and learn from it.

BETTER for 2012: A Year in Review

Two thousand eleven has marked several highlights for me. On my last year as a teen (and STILL in denial), I have grown and learned from the experiences I have gotten myself into.

2011 was officially the first year in my conscious life that I didn't have to go to school. Also the same year I got my first ever promotion. The year I MARCHED (graduated), got in a commercial, made big career decisions, and met great new friends.

Also got in 100 x more trouble this year than any other year in my life, cried an ocean of tears, got into deadly bills and payments, and lost 2 cell phones consecutively.

This year has evolved me from student to working girl. Who would have thought that the REAL WORLD everyone warned us about would be harder than we thought? I wasn't emotionally prepared. Haha! I kid.

The decisions I made this year definitely SPUN MY WORLD and made all the difference in who I am now. Still indecisive? Maybe a little, but I'm learning. I still haven't figured everything out, I know. But for sure, what I'm probably going to be telling my children (of the future) is that they shouldn't rush anything. It's also best to always LEARN and LEARN from experiences, be humble in victories and gracious in defeat. Having a mature mind is always a good thing. I was so excited to grow up that I didn't know I was unprepared for words like TAXES, PRICE INCREASE, CONTRACTS, and REMAINING DAYS FOR LEAVE. It was all so fun and exciting back when I was playing pretend. Of course, our game of Bahay-bahayan didn't have RENT and 3 MONTHS ADVANCE in the rules and our source of income DID grow on trees. I thank God (and my family) so much for giving me the strength and courage to deal with all the hardships I have faced this year.

Globally, the world has faced a similar situation. God continuously proves that we will always be LEARNING and we can never claim to know it all. We will always be running back to Him in times of adversity, crossroads, revolution, remembrance, possibilities, and inspiration.

This year has truly been one to remember. 2011 hit us hard, especially to those who have loved and lost. Although we don't want to grow up too fast, a little growing up never hurt anybody. It's never supposed to be about regret of bad decisions or things left unsaid, but about gratefulness of the things that have happened and how it has helped us grow to be BETTER.

Urban Flavor rules 7th High

Spent the first night of my last month as a teenager at the 7th High, Club Room! I was there for Urban Flavor (the poster of which I designed here) supporting my team (the secret record label) Amber Davis, Marcus Davis, Mark Salunga, and Brenan. I just got off one of the longest meetings yet that day. Thanks Karla for the treats! :)

The Club Room at 7th High was sublime! This Members Only area really knows how to give everyone the VIP feel. Reservations for the Club Room are available through 7th High's website. It was also a Buy One, Take One promo that night for drinks. I bet people had fun with that!

10 Months

I remember the day I turned two-digits (in age). I was ecstatic of all the things I could do, how turning eighteen was just eight years to go (no duh!), and how adulthood was just around the bend.

So, ten months? Yup. Ten months. Just 2 more months and it's already been a year.

Exactly a year ago, times were hard for the both of us. Parang "You and Me Against the World" ang effect. Kidding aside, it's been one hell of a ride. You really see which friends stick around when the going gets tough, and which ones listen to and believe rumor (and act like they don't know you). We've gotten OVER that. OVER the people who told us not to, and OVER the people who think we've sinned them bad.

I told a friend once that if someone is really worth it, you GO FOR IT. Rendering a person worthy should take thought and loads of considerations. If you're sure YOU yourself are going to work things out and you know HE's going to do the SAME, only then can he be considered worthy of the risk. You need someone who will always be there for you and will believe in you even when you don't believe in yourself. You need someone who trusts you down to the core with everything and anything.

My cousin Slash (yes, named after that guitarist from Guns n' Roses and Velvet Revolver) celebrated her EIGHTEENTH birthday last week! The theme was WESTERN cowboy. I was ecstatic knowing that my very western boots could fit this very cowboy affair! And trust me, I RARELY get to wear my boots. :( The event was held at Silverplace Hotel, Makati. We were joined by several family and friends.

... I got to fulfill one of my lifelong dreams of working in a remittance center! :')

Hahaha! It was some first experience. Woke up at 5 am and everyone finished at around 3 am the next day. This experience RARELY comes for me, and as much as I wished it happen more often than it does... it doesn't. So this was pretty exciting. To tell you the truth, I still haven't seen this commercial on TV.

Shopping affair.

Affair as in endeavor or event. Affair as in a relationship.

Affairs sound a lot like something illegal. Why shouldn't this event be? How can something this fun even be legal (or real)? Haha! The second Bloggers United: An Interactive Shopping Affair happened last December 3, 2011 at Treston College, Taguig. So many things had to be done that I came late. By then, as I predicted, most of the good stuff were sold. Sucks too that I didn't meet my giveaway winner, Kat Valdez. :(

Tips for BU3?

1.) Arrive early! Countless times have sellers told me "Sayang, there were better designs earlier!"

2.) Bring your friends, your mother, and your siblings. Sure it's via invites and the entrance fee is a hundred bucks but you wouldn't regret a cent!

3.) Make friends! My bad, I didn't get to introduce myself to others (especially to the people I knew). The best way to widen your experience and gain more readers is to create physical connections.

I think I would have more tips if I arrived early. Haha! Great event but had to dash to the Philippine Blog Awards (at Makati) after. Bitin. Bitin. Bit---

I found another purpose.

Last week, I was in Manila and visited some friends. I got there around 10 in the morning and decided to go grab some coffee and fries for breakfast. Not such a great breakfast combo at McDonald's, I know. But it was a guilty pleasure. Haha. A friend accompanied me and decided to get a hot fudge sundae.

On our way out, a boy (about 7-8 years old) approached us and was asking for money. I've been frequently told not to give money to kids on the street because of a lot of modus operandi on older people using kids to get income and that they, the kids, might get used to people always giving them money without actually working for it so I was a little hesitant.

He looked at me with a tired face and said "Pahingi naman ng pera, bibili ako ng kanin at ulam." My friend offered to buy him candy and the kid just seemed to ignore what he said. My friend offered his sundae, put it on his hands, and the kid grasped it and looked back at me. He still seemed like he wanted more.

He didn't want my fries, he didn't want the sundae. He wanted my money.

To be honest, I really didn't have anything else. All the money I had left was for my commute. I looked at him and said, "Pasensya na po, wala na akong mabibigay sayo." My friend and I walked going up the footbridge and the boy followed.

All of a sudden, he started scratching me. Not lightly, but so hard it left red marks on my arm. I took his hand and stared at him. "Wala na talaga akong mabibigay. Sorry." I said as I moved him aside.

He ran in front of us and blocked our way. Passers-by already started looking at him and saying: "May pulis dyan sa baba, wag mo na sila guluhin!" He didn't mind that. He stayed in his place, and my friend moved him as far away from me.

We continued walking and he ran towards us and started scratching me again! "Pera na, pera! Pahingi na." I ignored him and walked straight. My friend held him and let me get to the stairs. When I got to the middle, my friend caught up with me. To my left side, I saw the sundae we gave fly down the stairs, almost missing my head by a few inches!

I looked back and saw him as he stared at us in contempt.

Wow. This kid.

We were completely appalled by what just happened as we walked away. Passers-by stopped and stared at us as we went by.

I shared the experience to a few friends, and summarized it on Twitter. I felt so sad. I felt angry.

I wanted to run back and teach that kid some discipline and respect. Moreover, I wanted to get even. I would probably even pray that he gets what he deserves soon. Karma?

Then again, he IS getting what he deserves. On his daily grind. Each and every time. I'll be waking up on a good bed, and it might be likely that he won't. There was no use to get even.

I prayed that night, not for his demise, but for him to change for the better. Whatever pressure there might be in his life, in which I'm sure he gets a lot of, he should learn to put it to good use and channel it into doing something better. I wouldn't know what the kid wanted exactly: money for food or medicine, vices and other drugs, debt, for a friend. But what I did know was that he wanted it bad. And when you want something that bad, "ask and you shall receive" isn't always the best advice.

When you're down, supposedly the only way to go is up. My father always told me to work hard for what I want. I was only given what I needed, and when I wanted something, I had to work for it. I never begged or annoyed anyone to give it to me.

Kids like him should be taught of the importance of goals, values, and determination. Refusing to teach them, or ignoring these kinds of behavior will only be trouble for the next generation. They're going to end up growing with the same kind of thinking: that they can get things they want by force. They're always going to think that someone's going to be giving them money all the time.

Money that other people have worked hard for.

Come to think of it, I think it was wrong to just walk away from what had happened.

They will become an epidemic to the society: the kids who grew up without values and determination. We keep asking for a leader who carries such traits but won't find the time of day to cultivate those kinds of leaders. Over-population wouldn't be so bad if everyone was productive, don't you think? We keep complaining that there are so many who depend on others to make their lives better for them and blame the government and the rich for how their lives came to be. These kinds of people start off as little kids from the street (literally and figuratively).

We can actually connect and connect and connect and address so many other social issues with this experience. It suddenly all appears like some domino-effect, all intertwined and related, and altogether we're just facing this multi-faced monster of a problem.

I've always wanted to have something to stand up for and I think this might be it. To find another purpose in life is so meaningful! To teach children, the future of the society, the values and the importance of goals and determination is a duty we all have to fulfill and I encourage everyone to make this one of their purposes, too.

Fashion: Nude Love

Nude and pastel colors seem to have a special place in my heart. They can be for the office or special occasions. These colors make you look fresh. Style pieces:

Nude lipsticks are love. However, take the following things into consideration:

For fair or pale skin: With lighter skin tones, avoid beige lipsticks, which will just wash you out. Instead, look to pink, peach, or pale apricot as your base shade. Tip: apply a lip liner in a color one shade darker than your natural tone to give your nude tone a brightened effect.
For the golden girls: If you've got lots of golden undertones in your skin, go for creamy, caramel-toned nudes and warm beiges. Avoid anything too cool, like grays or silver-toned shades.
For olive tones: If you've got olive skin, you're a lucky gal. Just about any nude shade will look great on you from beige to bronze to pinks.
For skin with yellow undertones: Think light, creamy-toned beiges like latte or mocha.
For dark-toned skin: Go for chocolate tones such as rich golden browns and coffees.

To achieve that whole simple look, make sure your hair is in sync! You can choose to tie it up, bun, or these half ponies with subtle waves/curls.

Make sure you add a brave pop of color (dark/strong eye make up, accessory, shoes, or bag) so you don't look too pale though.

Make Up + Portraits: VIP

Mabby had to attend a debut last night. We started at around 2, and I did her make up! I based it off everything I've learned through make-up artists that have done make-up on me. Modelling for Make Up Forever, chatting with MUAs, and endless YouTube tutorials really pay off! :)

It's still kinda messy, but... it's art! Voila!

My room window is the BEST place to shoot during 2-4 PM! The lighting is wonderful.

I was a one-girl salon that day. Earlier, I colored mom's hair and styled Mabby's hair, too!

Might be a little too early, but I'm thinking about doing tutorials, too! Hmmm... possibility! :)

The song "Superstar" is about a guy treating a girl like... well... a superstar. Brenan talks about how she shines and surpasses the rest. Awww!

Audioclef Records teamed up with Bay Area record label, 454 Life Entertainment's GINOROCKS and rapper Thai Viet G for this single. Thai's rap verse was definitely an awesome addition to the song and gave it immortal life. That rap part will always have a very special place in my heart.

Day 1 was spent on the plane! And I, unprepared and worn out from day work, got to cameo! Back up singer ang effect! Hahaha!

Day 2 was shot at Eivissa Superclub. I was with Rhoda and Daniel as we watched the club fill in with the hottest and the best! Naks!

An Open Letter to the MRT Commuters

Before anything else, I would like to first share with you my last MRT experience. I've only rode the MRT thrice, and I regretted it every time I did. I blame this mode of transportation for my claustrophobia, and low tolerance for crowds.

I was on my way to Ortigas that day and learned that it would take me a while to get to my destination if I rode by bus, so as much as I loathed taking the MRT, I had to.

After the long, long, long, long,..., long line to get inside the station, you are welcomed by fellow commuters who form some sort of a mosh pit on each door stop. I arrived 5:30 p.m. I wasn't in the mood for any pushing and shoving, and I'm not the type to hurt strangers (or anything in general) so I patiently waited for my chance to be upfront and finally get to step on the train.

Four trains have passed and I, along with all the other worn-out women (since I went on the women's area) are starting to get a little restless. By 6:00 p.m. I was no where close to the middle of this mosh pit. Yes I'd notice that there would be several women, who would arrive on that time that the train comes, and would squeeze themselves in. For a while, retaliating wasn't an option for me. I got hurt by the constant elbowing and pushing, but after I saw this short elderly woman get beaten because of these commuters who think of nothing more than to get on the train, I began to push back. These guilt-less commuters are nothing less of criminals. The fifth train passed, and the guard on patrol just smirked and smiled as if it was such a funny scene. He should be fired!

6:30 p.m. and I was somewhere in the middle of the crowd. I hated that spot. I was so urged to raise my arms and shout "PWEDE BA, PUMILA TAYO? WALA NAMAN SISINGIT!" Unpeyr! Unpeyr! Then, I would've told them to raise their hands and form a straight line. Alas, I didn't like causing a scene.

By 6:45, no train was in sight. This woman of her late 20's was by my side, intentionally shoving and elbowing me! What's her point? Where did she even come from?! She started pushing harder and harder so she could get in the middle of the pit as well. I looked at her and said, "What's your problem?! Pwede ba?!" She looks away and pretends not to hear me. I was so annoyed, I wanted to push her into the train tracks! Gusto nya pala mauna eh, edi mauna sya!

7:00 p.m. and ten trains have passed, and I'm somewhere in the front. I shared so much sweat with the rest of the crowd that it wasn't funny. I wanted to turn my back on everything, this beating and ache that I felt wasn't worth any gimmick, and no one deserved to put up with this. Then the eleventh train comes and it was empty. Everyone cheered as if they saw a celebrity or something. You could see everyone run fast and fill the seats like a game of Trip to Jerusalem.

For P12.00, you get what you pay for. There's the long-ass line actually getting to the area because security is slow. You would think that a slow security system would equate to an efficient one. Nope, not even close. You would think that by waiting in the women's area of the train you would get a little kindness. They're even tougher on you there. They know they're all women, each with their own selfish pride to get on so they hurt. With no concern for the elderly, the pregnant, or the children.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind paying P20 or even P50 if it would mean a better system for these kinds of transportation. But I wouldn't put all the blame on the government or the people who run the MRT.

Dear MRT Commuters,

It's as simple as forming a straight line, first come first serve. Didn't your parents tell you to be patient? Or was pushing and elbowing people to get what you want something you're accustomed to? Sure you're tired and you just want to go home or your late for an important meeting or event, but so is everyone else. No one would want to ride the MRT just because they're bored or have nothing better to do. There's no legit reason to hurt people or squeeze yourself in.

You would say that it might be a case of Survival of the Fittest out there. LAME EXCUSE. That makes you no different from the scandalous and corrupt government officials that you love to hate, call names, and rally against! The only difference is that they're after your money, and you're after one fourth a square meter of space on the train. Your methods are desperate and pathetic.

Also, give way to the handicapped, pregnant, and elderly! What you experience for the rest of the day will never really amount to what they have to go through. Let them go first, let them pass, let them be seated.

It doesn't always have to be a challenge to commute everyday. Discipline and change always starts within ourselves.

Anti-Epal Bill

It's a politician tradition. Their names and faces are larger than life on the billboards, posters, tarpaulins, across shelters, foot bridges, vehicles, or basically on anything they touch. They claim credit to projects that are funded by the public.

Covering it as an expense for information relation to the public, these vain politicians use taxpayers' hard-earned money and take this printing expense as a chance to insert their names and faces which will probably benefit them in their future election endeavors. Truly shameful.

Epal is slang for "ma-papel" (scene-stealers or attention-grabbers). And these politicians' actions fit this term's description. Currently undergoing committee deliberations, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago’s “anti-epal” bill is formally titled “An Act Prohibiting Public Officers from Claiming Credit through Signage Announcing a Public Works Project.”

According to the senator, “This is unnecessary and highly unethical” and “promotes a culture of political patronage and corruption."

Good God, it's about time! It's also funny how they print and post tarpaulins of their whole family greeting everyone a merry Christmas or what-ever-holiday! :| What is that?

According to Inquirer.net, the bill will only allow signs that bear the name, image or logo of the local or national government agency handling the project. If the bill gets passed into law, the DPWH and MMDA has 3 months from that day of the law's effectivity to remove all existing signage that violate its terms.

What's great about this bill is that it seeks to promote government officials that practice policy determination and also humility.

Courting 101: To tell or not to tell your friends?

It's been an ongoing topic between Daniel and I, actually. We would share stories from experience and observation, and exchange acquired DAMOVES skills and laugh at them after. But mind you, these conversations would actually be very intellectual and thought-provoking!

Now I wish to share with you our genius conversations. You may freely butt-in. Foreign readers, not like I have a lot though but, I burst into sudden Tagalog when I emphasize something. Just giving a heads up.

And ready.... go!

Topic #1 : To tell or not to tell your friends?

As a guy, do you tell your friends that you're courting this "heavenly angel from above"? OR do you keep it on the down low, for personal purposes... then surprise them? KABLAM! "I have an angel for a girlfriend, my friends!!!!"

In my opinion, courtship needs not be public unless you're getting paid for it. You don't need to tell anyone you're courting this girl, and the girl doesn't need to tell anyone you're courting her. There's no point really! Say you share it with your BFF or parents, or anyone of equal importance, that's all good in the hood. But telling your whole barkada or school or barangay... wait... what is your problem?

We noted down several reasons why anyone could possibly want to set courtship public:

For the boys:
1.) DIBS - So no one else will come close. Well, not in your group of friends anyways.
2.) POGI POINTS - Super pogi points diba, say if you're courting a Megan Fox of a girl and all your friends are rooting for you?! Ang gwapo mo. Nakakaasar.
3.) SUPPORT TEAM - So your friends and any one else who seems to care can root for you and help* you.

For the girls:
1.) DIBS - So no one else will come close. Well, not in your group of friends anyways.
2.) POGI POINTS - Girls have pogi points, too! Or... I hindi ko lang alam yung female term. Yeah, that might be it. BUT, similarly, girls tell their girlfriends their being courted by this guy (or in some cases, a couple of guys) and it boosts self esteem like woah!
3.) SUPPORT TEAM - So your friends and any one else who seems to care can root for you and help* you.

Notice the asterisk on the word help.

I'm pretty sure that it's done in good faith or intention, but in most situations, when friends begin telling you what to do and what to say, it's going to be for their pleasure. It's because that's how they want it to roll. Emphasis on TELL YOU. Iba ang pag tinanong mo, of course!

Pero, please naman, kung magtatanong ka ng advice, magtanong ka sa isa or dalawang pinaka-pinagkakatiwalaang tao mo nalang. At wag yung, hihingi ka ng advice tapos di mo manlang i-heheads up sa kanina na hindi mo pala susundin.

Going back to the point, unless you're really immature in your decision making (not that anyone who was immature would be aware of that), you don't need so many people telling you how to run your love life. That's when "help" takes its toll and rolls it's way to disaster.

Don't doubt yourself. Especially when it comes to intuition and feelings. I'm sure all of us were blessed with common sense. Some people just.. haven't opened that gift yet.

Just so you know, not all girls like it when you're telling your friends who you're courting. I actually get annoyed when someone says... "Pwede ba manligaw? (Can I court you?)"

I hate knowing when someone is courting me. It makes me feel as if there's a catch to everything he's doing for me.

And on that note, every good thing I welcome from him would suddenly be taken into account like I suddenly have to pay him back. My being receptive would, in his head, equate to me giving him a chance.

As much as possible, don't accept Starbucks Frapps, flowers, jewelry, load, car rides and the like... unless you REALLY need one.

Which brings me back to my point that if you're courting me, I DON'T WANT YOU TO ASK ME. And it might be the same for any other girl, it might not. Can't you just rely on your own suave and charm and have a girl fall in love with you naturally? Do you really have to ask?

And do you really have to tell your friends?

Satchel Lovin' and other Bags

I'm so in love with these bags. I don't even know how to put how I feel in words! They are beyond awesomesauce!

I'm starting to let my bag collection grow so I decided to do a checklist of all the bags I wish to at least get to touch for more than 5 minutes and fill with my magical things. So far, here are my top two:

#1 Jo Totes - Betsy Chocolate Camera Handbag

Add style and function, and you've got yourself a Jo Tote! And reviews have mentioned that the hundred nine dollar bag is a true value for your money! It doesn't strain your shoulders, so they say.

I wonder if anything similar is sold here in the Philippines. I need bag to inconspicuously nest my SLR. When I'm out and about around the city, I don't want my bag to be screaming, "Hey, I got a 30,000+ peso gadget you can snatch from me here!" And of course, I do want my baby safe.

#2 Alexa Style Satchel

So, I have a thing with satchels. And brown. And pockets. Big deal?

As much as I adore the satchels I have now, I'm actually leaning towards something more flexible. Like this Alexa Style Satchel.

Because of the material of the satchels I have now, I'm afraid that one day, it might dent and shape abnormally. You would also want a bag you can definitely get rough and go on an adventure with. :)

Bench\ | Spring Summer '12

Last Sunday, October 23, 2011 at around lunch time, I accompanied my brother to SMX for final rehearsals. It was for his first runway gig for Bench\ Spring Summer '12 Collection. After a whole lot of hullabaloo with emergency car trouble, we finally got to SMX. I wanted to barge in the rehearsals myself but I was toooooo shy.

I stayed outside with the event bouncers as I watched really hot models come in and out of the Function doors. I could say that probably my self-esteem has most likely dropped to a negative 200% as each model strutted their way past me. That happens, of course, when you compare yourself to these professionals with hopes that you might one day be in their shoes.

My brother invited me to go inside while I waited. I was so giddy seeing all these people prepare! I saw familiar faces from the blogosphere and fashion industry. I had to keep composure though! I sat beside my brother as he waited for his turn to be made up. You could say my self-esteem rose back to normal when two people told me to start having my make up done (twice in different times)! Heeeee. Ay, hindi ka ba model? Not to brag though, I just really wanted to share that I was mistakenly identified as a Bench model twice that day. That one's for the bag.

Thinking about it in hindsight, I should have availed that free make up service and just left. Just kidding. Sort of.

Before the show, we were lined up for the PROMO seats then promoted to VIP! I didn't even know I was supposed to go, because initially, my brother had only one invite. I won't tell how we got them, but we ended up with 10 invites, 6 of them VIP seats. Daniel, my tita and tito, and my parents were the only ones there so the Promo invites went unused. :( And to only feel worse about it, I had a good seat and no SLR on hand!

Special shout-out to Ava Te who I finally officially met that day! No camera means no photo. Boo. Next time talaga!

You can disagree with me if you want to, but I found Bea Alonzo quite stunning that day. Her hair was absolutely beautiful. I should think about using Clear. Haha! My very favorite would have to be that red striped polo and this:

L is for Love and Lomography

"Meeehn..."

That's my sigh expression for when I chance upon more things I cannot have. Today I was reminded that via Law of Attraction (read The Secret), positive attracts positive. I was having a pretty good start of the day until my 16-year old fan girl heart broke into a million pieces.

Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco is getting married. And... yeah. Meeeehn. There goes my teenage dream.

Negative attraction is quite fast. Browsing through TheFancy.com can be so devastating sometimes. I saw a number of lomo cams on the board and couldn't help but feel a little "Meeeehn..." once more.

I love lomo cams! Film cameras/ Analogs are so wonderful because they make you appreciate three things:

1.) Photo printing - I feel best when I can touch and feel my work. And to feel memories on your hands is just immensely wonderful.

2.) Trusting the Lomo - No deleting, no reviewing. Keeping it real. Just how it should be.

3.) Not Thinking - Rule #1 in shooting with a lomo? Don't think, just shoot. The brightest insights are always the first impressions, and thinking is killing.

You should know that Lomography is not an interface in your life but a part of it. Life inhales Lomography and Lomography inhales life.

Any photographer should feel and appreciate the process of film developing, too. We were lucky enough to have been taught how to develop in the dark room in college. Other than the stench that the room had, I enjoyed every bit of the process.

Then I go... Meehhhhn. A, Lomo Cameras are hard to find in a society that highly advertises and uplifts the new technology of DSLRs, and B, because of A, Lomo Cameras are also not exactly affordable.

Here's my sad face emoticon with matching tear drop. :'(

These eye candies, if you're as much of a lomo/film/photography buff (or a hipster) as much as I am, will make you stare at your wallet and cry for a while. ~~Unless, you're loaded. Then that's another story.~~

Should have been Informed?

As much as I deny, my life has just been floating recently.

Wake up, go to work. Spend eight hours in front of the computer, shut down. Leave work, eat, sleep. I hate routines. I hate living the same day twice... or the same week four times a month, or the same month twelve times a year.

It's not a healthy lifestyle, you know. Being stuck in a cycle of endless headache, stress, and melancholy only tires and thirsts me. I end up craving for that slight bit of euphoria and the feeling of freedom from the vicious real life that they used to talk to us about when we were in school.

No, not really.

School never taught us about real life.

In no way have I managed to apply Trigonometry in real life situations other than trying to appear as a smart-ass when I joke around with friends. Don't even get me started on the sin, cos, tan or the curves and waves. Notice my beef with Trigonometry, why don't you?

I would have rather spent my time learning about how to ace interviews, where to get good jobs, how to avoid scam and all the other demons of this "real world" they speak of, rather than the seemingly endless hours of things I cannot apply in real life. Can I get 20 units in Common Sense 101, please?

I would really be happy if they taught me how to speak well and gain confidence in speaking. Sure there are "special" classes you can take outside school for that, but come on! These are the basic necessities in real life! You cannot survive if you didn't know how to speak your mind right. Somehow, I slur and stutter my words. Hey, I'm the quiet girl. It happens.

School also never taught us about how to find ourselves. I would think that it's only right to have special time for that because the age that we attend school is also the age when we construct our being and who we're really supposed to be.

How many of us are definite of who we're supposed to be? Of what our purpose is and if our purpose is something of value?

Also, how unfair is it that at school, we are solely judged on our ability in a certain area. I've spent quite a number of years believing that I can only do so much only because school's standards say so. And I thought school was always right.

If you judge a fish's intelligence by it's ability to climb a tree, it will spend it's whole life believing it is stupid.

And just like this real world, they judge you on society standards that are so flawed. If the real world implies heavy routines, narrow minds, inequality, and no space for change, then I think that's what the school should warn their students about.

I need a break.
